Is it ok to put regular sand in my hermit crab tank?

Theres a huge pile of beach sand in my backyard. I heard the rocks aren’t as good as sand for hermit crabs because they can’t really bury themselves in it, and since I just have all that sand I was thinking maybe I could get rid of the rocks and replace it with the sand. Would I have to, like, boil it or something to get it clean? Int he wild its fine but I was just wondering about tame hermit crabs.

I use play sand lots of people do not because lots of brands contain all sorts of nastys. I sift and cook my sand. You can also get crushed coral really cheap at some fish stores in bulk. This would be better for them. I’m switching to it soon. Make sure you have it deep enough for the largest crab to dig down in. and you need a sturdy stand if you’re using lots of sand ( I have about 60 pounds of sand in my tank and another 8 pounds of coconut fibre)

Cook it at 400f-450 for 20-30 minutes.
