need some advice on a good med- to heavy action fly rod?
something suitable for saltwater fishing ie. snook,tarpon,striped bass
generaly when fly fishing im fishing trout so my gear is fairly lite
Fisher_King is right – that’s a good rod for the price. Reddington is owned by Sage, just that they are built overseas – the quality if good for the price. The Cabela’s XST is another decent fly rod for under $200 and I have had no issues with sending Cabela’s products back – they stand by their products. Orvis makes some wonderful salt water rods
such as the T-3 ( about $425) and of course the ZG Helios which just may be the absolute nuts, but is quite pricey at $ 750 or so. It does weigh in considerably less than all others which will reduce fatigue.
IMO – the 9 wt rod is the way to go
It is of my opinion that salt water rods should be fast action ( or tip flex) because of the speciaized taper flyline + the size of the flys you’ll be using –
You’ll need a saltwater reel – don’t skimp here. All good reel mfgrs make salt water reels, from Ross to Orvis to Galvan. Fishing for larger fish I would reccomend a large arbor reel with a proven drag system
( Orvis Battenkill large Arbor for $239) to over $600 for an Abel ot Tibor
OK, now pick up some saltwater flyline ( Cortland, Airflow, SA, Rio – any decent brand) and put backing on you reel and you’re ready to go.

Fresh Blueberry Pancake is a typical post-Cream power trio, from Pittsburgh, PA. Active from 1968 to 1972, the group did not release any album, but a set of demos was recorded in 1970 and pressed in 54 copies for promotional use. The sound quality is pretty good considering the group probably invested little money in studio time, which makes one think that Shadoks had access to the master tapes. The nine songs clock in at under 33 minutes and are of uneven interest. “Hassles” and “Stranded” stand out thanks to their heavy riffs (“Hassles” sounds derived from Cream’s “Politician”), fuzz guitar, and passionate vocals from Tony Impavido, who also handles the bass guitar. Another highlight is the Savoy Brown-tinged “Down on the Farm.” Some of the other tracks have a Southern or even Californian feel (“Where’s the Sun,” for instance) and occasionally hit a religious note (“I Call Him Lord”). Nothing aggravating there; it’s only that Fresh Blueberry Pancake’s songs can be a bit unimaginative and bland. The trio (completed by guitarist John Behrens and drummer Geoff Rydell) understood the dynamics of blues-rock, but lacked good melodies and superior musicianship. In short, Heavy is mildly entertaining and of interest mostly to collectors of ’70s obscurities. ~ Fran?ois Couture |

In a distant universe, the acronym F.A.K.K. (Federation Assigned Ketogenic Killzone) is used to designate places of extreme danger to all life forms. In a bid to keep out unwelcome visitors, the quiet civilization of Eden has designated itself as F.A.K.K., level two. However, a lunatic named Tyler (voice of Michael Ironside) invades Eden, and when he discovers Eden’s secrets — life-preserving if respected, deadly when abused — he lays waste to the civilization, leaving behind only a female warrior named Julie (voice of Julie Strain).
