Choose Your Own Adventure $14.99 Great glitch is when the melody gets pulled to nearly snapping and chaos is used for dramatic effect. Team Doyobi seemed to have come at it from the wrong angle. On their second album, Choose Your Own Adventure, the group adds some actual tunes to its established chaos but still doesn’t give you much to grasp. Melodies don’t care much about what’s going on around them and most tracks have two incompatible rhythms rubbing up against each other. Of course that describes plenty of great glitch records, but Choose Your Own Adventure lacks their sharp construction. The prog rock noodling on the title track holds promise until — like every other good idea on the album — it loses its footing to shallow disorder. The group remains true to its “old computers only” aesthetic, so Amiga and Atari ST fans might get some use out of this. ~ David Jeffries

Goldberg plays a leather-clad smart-alecky detective who is assigned the odious task of teaming up with Teddy Rex, a dino-detective. Naturally lizards and leather don’t mix and the two constantly bicker their way into buddyhood as they investigate the death another dinosaur, a death that turns out to be linked with a crazed scientist’s nefarious, chilling plot. Goldberg (to her credit) attempted to back out of making this film soon after production started. The Cyclops – Widescreen $24.99 Producer/director Bert I. Gordon began his career-long devotion to movies about giant-sized people and animals with this low-budget chiller, which has a surprisingly strong cast of onetime Hollywood leading men. Gloria Talbott plays Susan Winter, a young American woman who hires soldier-of-fortune Russ Bradford James Craig to lead an expedition into a remote valley in Mexico where her fiance, Bruce Barton, was lost in a plane crash two years earlier. Also along are greedy speculator Martin Melville (Lon Chaney Jr.) and pilot Lee Brand (Tom Drake). They get to the valley and discover that it is, as was rumored, rich in deposits of uranium, but also dangerously radioactive — the immediate threats include giant insects and spiders and huge mutated lizards, but Susan is positive that they’re being watched by an unseen observer. The title creature, 25 feet tall with a disfigured face, a single eye, and motivated by the most bestial of impulses, shows himself by trapping them inside of a cave, and quicker than you can say Polyphemus, the rescue mission becomes a fight for survival that has a particularly nasty, bitter ending. ~ Bruce Eder, Rovi
