Joe Mauer is the next big thing?
I was very impressed by this type of 3 years. In each full season he played, he never hit in, 293. Rarely strikes, averaged over the strike only 50-55 times per season. You can also drive series. However, I am also concerned that as a big guy, Joe is fucking knees if continues to play receiver. I think he goes to 1 basis, will extend his career several years.
likely to be a future star

Joe Somebody - $14.99 Following their television series Home Improvement and the features The Santa Clause (1994) and Jungle 2 Jungle (1997), the actor/director team of Tim Allen and John Pasquin collaborate once again on this high-concept comedy. Allen stars as Joe Scheffer, a nice guy video specialist for a Minneapolis pharmaceutical company who’s plodding through both his thankless job and an unhappy divorce from his ex-wife Callie (Kelly Lynch). When Joe brings his daughter Natalie (Hayden Panettiere) to the office with him on Take Our Kids to Work Day, he’s humiliated in a spat with company bully Mark McKinney (Patrick Warburton) over a parking space. It’s the last straw for the mild-mannered Joe, who challenges McKinney to a rematch, hires a has-been action movie star (Jim Belushi) to instruct him in martial arts, and pays a stylist to make over his wardrobe and hair. As Joe’s image improves and the big day approaches, he finds his new self-respecting stance has positive effects in both the workplace, as he lands a long-overdue promotion, and in his romantic life, as both Callie and a cute “wellness coordinator” (Julie Bowen) start warming up to him. The levelheaded Natalie, however, seems to prefer the previously non-confrontational dad she already loved. Joe Somebody (2001) is the feature debut of screenwriter John Scott Shepherd, who actually worked as a corporate filmmaker in Minneapolis. ~ Karl Williams, Rovi |

To Joe With Love $14.99 Personnel includes: Juanita Holiday (vocals); Monnette Sudler (guitar).Juanita Holiday is a powerful singer who can really belt out the notes. The set of songs on To Joe With Love has so much swing, power, and wit, that it deserves a high rating. A vocal group, the Original Tymes, add a bit of humor and class to two numbers; an unidentified orchestra is added to a couple of tracks; and there are fine solos along the way from tenor-saxophonist Robert “Bootsie” Barnes, guitarist Monnette Sudler, and tenor-saxophonist Ernie Hopkins, who also sings quite effectively on “Big Legs.” But it is Holiday who is the main star; she holds some perfectly controlled long notes on “Time After Time,” competing with Etta James on “At Last,” really digging into the humorous “Your Husband’s Been Cheating On Us,” and “I Just Found Out About Love.” Holiday proves to be an equally skilled jazz and blues singer. This small-label release is well worth going out of one’s way to discover. ~ Scott Yanow |

Jackie & Joe - $9.99 Includes:The Jackie Robinson Story (1950) The Joe Louis Story (1953) The Jackie Robinson Story Despite its lack of production values and box-office “names,” The Jackie Robinson Story is one of the best and most convincing baseball biopics ever filmed. Brooklyn Dodgers second baseman Jackie Robinson plays himself, and quite well indeed. The film traces Robinson’s career from his college days, when he excelled as a track star at Pasadena College and as UCLA’s All-Sports record holder. Upon his graduation, Robinson tries to get a coaching job, but this is the 1940s, and most doors are closed to black athletes. After serving in the army, Robinson plays with the Negro Baseball League, where his uncanny skills attract the attention of Branch Rickey, general manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers. Anxious to break down the “color line” that exists in major-league baseball, Robinson is chosen in 1946 to play for the Brooklyn farm team in Montreal. In a harrowing sequence, Rickey lets Robinson know what he’s in for by bombarding him with insults and racial slurs. The manager is merely testing Robinson’s ability to withstand the pressure: he wants a black ballplayer “with guts enough not to fight back.” Robinson agrees to ignore all racial epithets for the first two years of his Brooklyn contract. Despite the unabashed hatred to which he is subjected during his year with Montreal, Robinson steadfastly continues to turn the other cheek, and in 1947 he graduates to the Dodgers lineup. After a slow start, Robinson justifies the faith put in him by Rickey. The Dodgers win the pennant race, and slowly but surely the ban on black players vanishes in the Big Leagues. Though a model of restraint by 1990s standards, The Jackie Robinson Story is surprisingly frank in its detailing of the racial tensions of its own era. It falters only in a couple of silly vignettes involving comic-relief ballplayer Ben Lessey. The cast is uniformly fine, including Louise Beavers as Robinson’s mother, Ruby Dee as his wife Rae (Dee would later play Robinson’s mother in the 1990 TV movie The Court-Martial of Jackie Robinson), Joel Fluellen as his brother Mac, Minor Watson as Branch Rickey, and best of all, Richard Lane as Montreal manager Clay Hopper. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi The Joe Louis Story Coley Wallace plays the title role in The Joe Louis Story. Told in flashback, the film recounts the pugilistic career of “the Brown Bomber” from the early 1930s to his misguided comeback attempt opposite Rocky Marciano in 1951. The film’s high point is Louis’ defeat of Germany’s Max Schmeling; its low point (dramatically, not quality-wise) is the breakup of Louis’s marriage. Evidently for legal reasons, most of the character names in the film are fictional. Many of the fight scenes are culled from footage of the real Louis in action. Though the “race” angle in The Joe Louis Story is downplayed, Louis is treated on an equal par with the white characters, which resulted in the film being banned in certain S |

Joe Versus the Volcano – Widescreen Subtitle $5.99 Academy Award-winning screenwriter John Patrick Shanley’s first foray into the director’s chair is a quirky romantic fantasy, featuring Bo Welch’s signature production design. Tom Hanks plays Joe Banks, a man who hates his job, thinks the overhead fluorescent lights are making him sick, and quakes at the presence of his boorish boss Frank Watori (Dan Hedaya). He is attracted to the office secretary DeDe (Meg Ryan) but is afraid to speak to her. Then his life changes when he visits Dr. Ellison (Robert Stack). Dr. Ellison tells Joe that he has something called “a brain cloud” that is rapidly spreading throughout his brain. He will feel great, but he’ll be dead within five months. Instead of being depressed at this bleak prognosis, Joe suddenly feels free. He quits his job, asks DeDe out, and is contacted by a rich millionaire named Graynamore (Lloyd Bridges). Graynamore owns an island named Waponi Woo, whose natives need to be placated. The natives require a sacrifice to their island volcano, the Big Woo, so that the island won’t sink beneath the Pacific. Graynamore offers unlimited wealth to Tom in exchange for Tom’s becoming the object of human sacrifice. Joe has nothing to lose, so he accepts the offer. As he heads out to the island, Joe meets Graynamore’s daughters — Angelica, a Los Angeles socialite, and Patricia, Angelica’s blonde half-sister (both roles played by Ryan). Joe arrives at the island, and as he stands at the lips of the Big Woo he has to decide whether he really wants to leap into the maw of the fiery volcano. ~ Paul Brenner, Rovi |

The Big Black $17.99 Orange Goblin: Ben Ward (vocals); Joe Hoare, Pete O’Malley (guitar); Martyn Millard (bass); Chris Turner (drums).Additional personnel: Harry Armstrong (vocals); Royston Vasey Choir (background vocals).Recorded at Markangelo Studios, London, England between November 22 & December 1999.Because the band had been immediately signed to highly regarded Rise Above Records (perhaps the ultimate stoner rock/doom metal label) and had sounded so mature and “together” straight out of the box, Orange Goblin was put under more scrutiny than most young groups. And after weathering a noticeable sophomore slump with 1998′s often lackluster Time Travelling Blues, the quintet members probably knew they needed to come up with a strong showing the third time around in order to prove their worth. Early believers already knew that here was a supremely competent set of musicians, who managed to borrow most of the basic elements laid down by their stoner metal forefathers (Kyuss, Monster Magnet, Acrimony) without actually sounding too much like any of them. But their still developing songwriting skills hadn’t really allowed them to stand out from that of other solid second-generation stoners, as of yet. Thankfully, their third opus, The Big Black, took a quantum leap in that direction by boasting Orange Goblin’s most consistent and memorable batch of tunes thus far. The explosive power of opener “Scorpionica” immediately hints at this development, and further highlights like “Quincy the Pigboy” and the ultra-spacy “Cozmo Bozo” quickly confirm the listener’s hopes. The propulsive, mad dervish of “Turbo Effalunt (Elephant)” (no doubt a stoned mispronunciation done good) provides as straightforward a head-banging delight as the band has ever committed to wax, and lengthy space rock jams like the title track also tend to avoid the excessive mucking about of previous years. Also conspicuously absent are the generally disposable organ accompaniments, which had cluttered the band’s first two outings. This timely release also arrived as the Goblin’s biggest UK competitors for stoner rock supremacy (Electric Wizard, Cathedral) were temporarily out of commission, helping the band attract many new fans as well as significantly more media attention. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia |

The Big Sleep - $12.99 Robert Mitchum reprises his role as Raymond Chandler’s Philip Marlowe from Farewell, My Lovely, in this misconceived remake of Howard Hawks’s classic 1946 film — transferring the setting from 1940s California to 1970s London. Marlowe is hired by a rich and dying General Sternwood (James Stewart) to find out who is blackmailing him. Marlowe then meets Sterwood’s daughters — the crazy and degenerate Camilla (Candy Clark) and the more even-tempered Charlotte (Sarah Miles). Opening up a can of worms, Marlowe unveils a collection of unsavory characters — Eddie Mars (Oliver Reed), an inveterate gambler having an affair with Charlotte; Joe Brody (Edward Fox), Camilla’s ex-lover; and Agnes (Joan Collins), a sexy bookstore clerk. The plot becomes even more chaotic when it is found that Camilla has been posing in the nude for pornographer Arthur Geiger (John Justin). When Geiger turns up dead, Camilla becomes implicated in Geiger’s murder. ~ Paul Brenner, Rovi |

Jackie Robinson Story/The Joe Louis Story – Fullscreen $8.99 Includes:The Jackie Robinson Story (1950) The Joe Louis Story (1953) The Jackie Robinson Story Despite its lack of production values and box-office “names,” The Jackie Robinson Story is one of the best and most convincing baseball biopics ever filmed.
