I write a story and I'm confuzzling. Nobody who?

During the daylight hours, the 15-year-old Angel is known as Molly, a model prep school student. Devoid of parents, Molly must find some way to keep up the cash flow, so she hits the Hollywood mean streets as a prostitute. While we thankfully don’t see Angel “in action”, as it were, the film makes up in violence what it lacks in raw sex. Psycho John Diehl is on the loose murdering prostitutes; detective Cliff Gorman tries to stem the murder spree, but soon the hooker ranks are sorely diminished, leaving Angel the next likely target. With the help of such friends as ex-cowboy star Rory Calhoun and transvestite Dick Shawn, Angel manages to avoid becoming a statistic. We’re not giving anything away here: after all, there was a 1986 sequel, Avenging Angel. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi Avenging Angel Betsy Russell takes over as part-time prostitute Molly Stewart in this disappointing sequel to the surprisingly good Angel (1984). Old pals Rory Calhoun and Susan Tyrrell are along for the search for the killer of the cop who saved Molly’s life in the first film, joined by street magician Johnny Glitter (Barry Pearl). More brutal and hard-edged than the original, this installment is just another violent action movie, despite some slick camerawork and a fast pace. Her half-sister, it turns out, is a prostitute, and former-hooker Angel, virtuously “born-again,” is dead-set against prostitution so she’s out to save her sibling. After discovering and befriending songwriter Randy Stonehill, Norman had an affair with his wife; a disagreement with members of the Christian rock band Daniel Amos led Norman to refused to release an album he produced for them. And some who worked with Norman speak of a man with a powerful ego and a short temper whose motivations seemed hard to fathom and hardly Christian. Angel – Subtitle $14.99 In a year when the Cannes Film Festival honored the histrionic shrieking of Isabelle Adjani in Possession with a Best Actress Award, it should come as no surprise that this similarly melodramatic Greek film from Yiorgos Katakouzinos was one of the most discussed entries in the Directors’ Fortnight. It stars Michalis Maniatis as Angelos, a young gay man with a drunken father, a crazy mother, and a crippled sister. Angelos falls in love with a dodgy sociopathic Marine named Michalis (Dionyssis Xanthos), who turns him into a transvestite hooker. When Angelos gets arrested and kicked out of the army, his father commits suicide and Michalis starts beating and raping the grieving Angelos. Finally, it’s all too much for Angelos to take and he bloodily stabs Michalis to death in his sleep. Not what one would describe as “subtle,” the film still benefits from a memorable performance by Maniatis, who hits every discordant note that Katakouzinos’ script demands of him with admirable depth and realism. ~ Robert Firsching, Rovi |

The God portrayed in Angel Sanctuary is in a “sleeping” state in an effort to “gather his powers” and is therefore not completely omnipotent.
